In the UK we use 7 million disposable coffee cups every day with only 1% of these currently being recycled. By purchasing a reusable cup you can make sure you aren't contributing to this problem whilst saving money by taking advantage of discounts offered by many leading coffee chains. All reusable coffee cups featured on Bottletidy.com are made from recyclable materials.
The rating we use for scoring coffee cups is unique to Bottletidy.com and involves testing and feedback from users of all products listed.
Coffee Cups featured in our listings are rated against the following features:
Below we list the sizes of coffees from 3 of the UK's leading coffee chains. All sizes are to be used as a guide only.
Starbucks offer a 25p discount off of all drinks (excluding filter coffee) for using your own reusable coffee cup.
Caffe Nero offer double loyalty stamps when using your own reusable coffee cup.
Costa offer 25p off hot drinks when using your own reusable coffee cup.
Although many coffee cups are labelled as recyclable, due to their complex production, this is only possible in some of the most advance recycle centres in the UK. All disposable coffee cups are largely made of paper, but include a thin lining of plastic polyethylene, which is connected to the paper cup to make it waterproof. This construction is the main reason for making them so difficult to recycle - although, once they have been filled with liquid (therefore contaminated) this process gets even more complex.
Fortunately the Environmental Audit Committee has outlined a strategy for the UK Government to cut down on the use of disposable coffee cups which includes incentives to using multi use coffee cups, adding a 25p latte levy to all single use cups and ensuring all coffee cups are recyclable by 2023 with more pressure being put on the large coffee chains to take on more responsibility.
